Amazon Web Services

Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)

Definition

AWS's managed Kubernetes service. AWS manages the control plane (API server and etcd) with high availability across multiple Availability Zones; worker nodes can be EC2 instances or run serverless with AWS Fargate.

Exam context

In CLF-C02 and SAA-C03 it is distinguished from Amazon ECS: EKS if you already use Kubernetes or need portability across clouds; ECS if you want the simpler, AWS-native orchestrator. It is the equivalent of AKS in Azure and GKE in Google Cloud. Question: run existing Kubernetes workloads on AWS without managing the control plane → Amazon EKS.
