Grounding

Definition

The practice of connecting a generative model's responses to verifiable data sources (the company's own data, third-party data, or the real world via web search) to reduce hallucinations and increase the factual accuracy of responses.

Exam context

In GENAI-L (Domain 3) it is the umbrella concept under which RAG is framed. Google Cloud offers "Grounding with Google Search" to anchor responses to up-to-date search results, in addition to RAG with proprietary data via Agent Platform.
